The following is for a joint project between Farmers Market Coalition and
the Wallace Center for Sustainable Agriculture:*

Request for Print & Electronic Materials for Direct-Marketing Farmers &
Market Managers*

With your help, the Wallace Center can provide the tools necessary to grow
and strengthen farmers markets nationwide. As the convener of the National
Farmers Market Network (please see the attached description), in
coordination with the Farmers Market Coalition (FMC), we are expanding
outreach efforts by developing materials on farmers market management,
operations, and education.

We understand the need to share resources related to best practices for
meeting food safety regulations, acquiring insurance, starting a 501(c)3 to
support the market's management, promotion, and recruiting farmers. We've
developed two resources that cover many of these topics for
farmers<http://www.wallacecenter.org/our-work/Resource-Library/wallace-publications/handbooks/Farmer11-1_Sc.pdf/view>and
for market
managers<http://www.wallacecenter.org/our-work/Resource-Library/wallace-publications/handbooks/RECRUITERS_Sc.pdf/view>(both
are free), but we need your help to go further.

The Wallace Center and the FMC are developing a free online library where
you will be able to find information on such topics as implementing
policies, market governance, promotion, value-added products, liability
insurance, crop insurance, recruiting vendors, and underserved farmer
assistance. This library will be available to everyone in the farmers
market community – resource providers, managers, producers, or others
considering starting their own market.

To make this new resource a success, we're asking those who have materials
they want to share to upload them on the FMC website, or send them to us by
mail and we'll scan them online. We will credit your market's submissions,
and in visiting the website you will be able to see the resources developed
by your peers nationwide.

To see what we're looking for, take a look at the attached checklist. Also,
if you're interested in receiving the free publications we mentioned earlier
drop us a line. To submit documents, please either upload them directly
through the FMC's website at:
http://www.farmersmarketcoalition.org/submit-resource/ or email them to
Eugene Kim at ekim at winrock.org. The deadline for submission on this
particular project is *July 18, 2008*.

We hope you'll help us out on this important project to share resources
across the farmers market community.

Sincerely,

Eugene Kim Matthew Kurlanski
