Arkansas Farmers Market Advocates to Meet February
29th<http://www.kait8.com/Global/story.asp?s=7879581>

*JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -* From growing to selling, farmers' markets are a
popular event for many in the Mid-South. On February 29th, growers and
vendors statewide will meet at ASU to learn, and teach, why farmers' markets
are increasingly popular and how to create a successful farmers' market in
their community.

"Come Grow With Us" <http://www.asufarmersmarket.org/> will be hosted by the
ASU Regional Farmers' Market and the Arkansas Farmers' Market Association.
The one-day meeting/conference will feature presentations from experts who
have been studied and been involved with farmers' markets in Region 8,
Arkansas and all of the Mid-South. From chefs to publishers of magazines to
researchers from Mississippi State University and University of Arkansas, a
variety of speakers will be present.

Another focus will be how growers can lengthen their growing season and
provide more produce with a greater variety. Growers can also find out how
to make more money at this trade.

"This is a unique opportunity for any one who has toyed with the idea of
getting involved in the direct marketing of their produce to consumers,"
said Bob Young, chair of the ASU Regional Farmers' Market Advisory Board.
"Even backyard gardeners and hobbyists can be successful at it. If you have
the land, locally grown produce can be very lucrative. There's a huge market
for it out there."

The conference will be at the Convocation Center at ASU on Friday, February
29th from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Registration, which includes refreshments
and lunch, is $20.

Individuals looking for continuing education credits may sign up at the
conference for crop management, which is 1 credit hour, and professional
development, which is 4 credit hours.

For more information or to access a registration form, log onto
